This week’s giveaway includes a Creature of the Word book from Matt Chandler, Eric Geiger, and Josh Patterson as well as the DVD discussion guide.
The book examines the rich, Scripture-based beauty of a gospel-centered church and then clearly provides practical steps toward forming a gospel-centered church. It will become a centering discussion piece for those whose goal is to be part of a church that has its theology, culture, and practice completely saturated in the gospel. The Reformers viewed the gospel as not merely one thing among many in the life of a church but rather the means by which the church exists. When the gospel is rightly declared and applied to God’s people, the church becomes “a creature of the Word.”
The Creature of the Word: The Jesus-Centered Church DVD Discussion Guide supplements Creature of the Word by introducing and expanding on the book’s content. It also provides a discussion guide for participants and small groups. The DVD includes four video sessions, each approximately 30 minutes long.
Also included is a black, genuine leather version of the HCSB Minister’s Bible. This newly designed edition is ideal for pulpit use with its large type, wide margins, and extensive ancillary notes from many of today’s top preachers and church leadership voices.
Some features of the Bible include:
- Where to Turn When . . .
- Plan of Salvation
- Four-color presentation page
- Various wedding and funeral outlines by Jim Henry
- “8 Traits of Effective Church Leaders” by Thom S. Rainer
- “21 Essentials of Authentic Ministry” by James T. Draper
- “Four Kinds of Expositional Preaching” by Ed Stetzer
- “30 Keys to Giving an Invitation” by O. S. Hawkins
- “Leading a Child to Christ” by Bill Emeott
- “Reaching Students with the Gospel” by Lynn H. Pryor
- “The Importance of Baptism and Communion” by Rick White

I cycle through the OT in book order, reading 2 or more chapters a day.
I cycle through the gospels consecutively, reading one or more verses a day and chewing on it for a time after.
I cycle through the rest of the NT, reading one or more verses a day and chewing on it for a time after.
In each of the above cases I consult online commentaries if/when I feel I need assistance.
I’m not using a particular Bible plan, but I have a mission to read through Scripture, because of self-discipline and a hunger/appetite for God’s Word.
Thanks for your consideration!
My bible reading plan is the YouBible Old Testament in a year plan.
My church, ClearView, is reading through the Bible together. We are using Guthrie’s Chronological Plan, Read the Bible for life.
I’m using the Change Your Life Daily Bible, an oldie but a goodie. I’m also reading through Jesus Calling and Johnny Hunt’s Walk Through the Word NT Devotional. Plus, I just root around each day on different topics as my students or website readers ask me questions.
The M’Cheyne reading plan.
Discipleship Journal reading plan
I am using The One Year Bible and have used it as a guide several years now. Each year God shows me something new!
I am reading the six month through the Bible plan from Daystar on the Youversion app for my IPad. I read through the ESV last year. This year I’m reading through the HCSB for the first time.
Bible in 90 days found on youversion.com
My church is using a free Bible reading plan printed by Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Missouri. First time trying it, but we’re attempting to get each member to commit to reading through this year.
I’m using “Reading God’s Story: One-Year Chronological Plan” through Youversion.
I will be using Dr. Horner’s bible reading plan
I’m using the M’Cheyne Bible reading plan.
I’m using the Project 51 plan on YouVersion.
I am doing the Bible in 90 Days plan. I actually started on November 1st and now in Daniel. I’ll be finished by the end of January. Once finished I’ll then read through the New Testament once a month. Also read a chapter of Proverbs daily.
The Discipleship Journal Bible Reading Plan
youversion app, presently working on the book of Ephesians
Reading through Robert Hawker’s “Poor Man’s Commentary” beginning with the N. T. Nothing like reading the Scriptures with a friend (gotta love the Puritans).
I have created my on plan. Five chapters five days a week.
I’m reading the chronological plan provided by Blue Letter Bible, through YouVersion. The strength of using YouVersion is in its accessibility across formats—phone, computer, tablet. It synchs across the three, so that I can engage it in a variety of settings. Also, it has saved me on more than one occasion, with its helpful “catch me up” feature.
One of our young adult classes at the church I pastor is reading the New Testament in 16 weeks. They are meeting for discussions, I am going through that with them.
The one year Bible my Great-grandmother gave me 20 yrs or so ago.
I don’t use any particular plan to speak of. I take my time studying through books of the Bible. Right now I am rooted in Mark w/ Hebrews in the near future.
Life Application Study Bible Devotion.
I am using the OT/NT reading plan, i read several chapters on both testaments daily as they are.
I am using the reading plan the bible in one year
“Eat this this book” on YouVersion ipad app.
You Version, The One Year Bible. OT, NT, Psalm, & Proverb each day. Used the RTB4L 4+1 plan last year and really enjoyed it.
Reading through the New Testament this year 5 chapters a week.
I am reading and will finish, The Story by Valentines Day. My goal was to have it read by January 1st., but I got really sick for a month. Reading Scripture in a narrative format has been great to see how every story points to Jesus. After I finish that, I am going to read through the Gospels, John’s epistles and Revelation, Paul’s letters, Acts, and remaining Epistles, then I am going to go through the Prophets, studying a couple minors in between each major. Then I’ll read the Five books of Moses and the rest of the Old Testament history books. It would be great to win this giveaway and be able to study Scripture HCSB Ministers Bible!
It’s the Chronological Study Bible for me. Looking forward to it, been something I have wanted to do for a while.
Thanks for the giveaway Thom!
The bible in 90 days. Reading with a couple of minister friends.
I’m following a plan in a book that has a daily devotional. It’s called “Discovering the Bible – Your Daily Bible Reading Companion”
ESV study bible – bible in a year
I don’t follow a specific plan, but try and read a chapter a day. I generally rotate between OT and NT books.
I know it has a surprising name, but I am using the “Bible Eater” reading plan to go through the Bible in a year. It highlights chapters that provide historical context, and gives you time to meditate on many rich NT chapters. Looking forward to feasting on God’s Word!
My wife and I are using a standard cover to cover bible reading plan.
I read both from the NT and the OT until I finish. The OT usually takes me longer because of its length. D. A. Carson’s reading plan is also helpful.
I am using the “Every Day in the Word” reading plan. Here is the link:
http://www.esv.org/assets/pdfs/rp.every.day.in.the.word.pdf
I’m currently studying one book of the Bible a month, similar to the Hendricks “Living by the Book” bible study plan.
I am reading my paperback copy of the One Year Bible (New Living Translation) arranged in 365 daily readings. It’s one of my favorites.
Discipleship journal book at a time reading plan. Thanks!
I don’t subscribe to any certain plan other than beginning at Genesis 1:1, and reading through.
Read The Bible For Life plan.
I am always reading some sort of Christian non-fiction, such as Creature of the Word, and incorporate that into my quiet time as well as daily reading before bed, mornings, down time, etc. I normally begin with that and end my time with bible reading. At the moment, I am working through James and will let the Lord lead me to the next book. I don’t set a time limit or daily reading goal really, I just read and chew, ending with prayer and out the door. The reading will often guide my thoughts throughout the day and leaves me looking forward to digging back in later in the day/evening. Blessings!
I am reading the “Lifetime Daily Devotions” plan found on Youversion.
I use the M’Cheyne Bible Reading Plan along with D.A. Carson’s For the Love of God daily commentary.
Reading through my own plan. I read 10 chapters a day in hopes of reading through the Bible three times this year.
I read through the bible cyclically. I usually start in Gen and work my way through. This year, I think I will start in Acts and work my way through.
This year I am using the One Year Bible plan. It’s been a whole since I read through all of Scripture. It’s easy for me just to focus on the texts I’m preaching through and miss out on my “daily bread”. So, I’m taking a leisurely stroll through the Bible this year.
An nasb daily Bible.
I am currently reading a chapter a day in Matthew then I will move to an OT book.
I’m reading through the Bible chronologically this year.
ESV reading plan on YouVersion.
Listening to YouVersion. Reading as appropriate to circumstances, books, shared verses or prophecy.

I am using the Everyday with Jesus Bible with devotions by Selwyn Hughes, HCSB version.
I am currently using the M’Cheyne One Year Reading Plan as well as the Proverbs reading plan found on YouVersion.
Thanks for offering Friday Freebies.
Using the Youversion app again.
This year I am beginning something I have never done before. I am going to read through the entire Archaeological Study Bible including all notes and articles as I read the Scriptures. Hopefully, this will give me a better understanding of the archaeological evidence that relates to the passage. Probably will be a two year project.
Whatever I feel led to read. Right now I am reading Nehemiah. GOOD STUFF!
Haven’t selected a formal plan. Typically read through the Psalms and focus on a book at a time.
I developed my own, based on Professor Grant Horner’s Bible Reading System. I read from 11 sections of the Bible each week, on different intervals. Pentateuch on Mondays (once per year). OT History Tuesdays and Wednesdays (once per year). Wisdom, minus Psalms and Proverbs on Fridays (twice per year). Psalms daily (four times per year). Proverbs daily (once per year). Major Prophets on Thursdays (once per year). Minor Prophets on Fridays (twice per year). Gospels and Acts weekdays (four times per year). Romans and Pastoral Epistles on Sundays (13 times per year). Pauline Epistles minus Romans on Mondays and Tuesdays (four times per year). General Epistles and Revelation on Wednesdays and Thursdays (four times per year). It sounds complicated, but I keep it all straight using Logos Bible Software. I love it because it gives me variety and I’m reading throughout the Bible each week.
I am currently searching for a new bible in a year plan. I did Horner’s last year.
Last year I really focused on the OT, so this year, I’ll focus on the NT more. NT in 60 days… then repeat (several times)
YouVersion Eat This Book Daily Bible with Psalms
We have a 2 year read through the Bible plan that we are leading our church, Calvary Baptist Church, through. We are beginning year 2 this year. We have used a church wide Bible reading plan for the last few years.
We are reading through using Guthrie’s Chronological plan.
I am using the Bible Gateway App on my Kindle. There are several different reading programs and right now I am doing the Historical one. It’s great for those early hours in the morning when my 6 month old sleeps in my lap. I don’ t have to turn any lights on because my Kindle screen is lighted and since I usually only have one hand, it’s much easier than trying to juggle my Bible.
I am following Dr. Horner’s bible reading plan
Prof. Horner’s
We use the Word of Life material at our church for the youth and kids. I am using the daily reading plan that is included with the books.
I’m using Grant Horner’s system (slightly modified)
http://www.scribd.com/doc/12349985/Professor-Grant-Horners-Bible-Reading-System
McCheyne’s reading plan.
I am doing a careful reading of the Old Testament this year; one or two chapters a day and reading the explanatory notes. I make my own notes and observations as I read. I journal any new insights or personal applications.
I’m using the ESV chronological plan again this year. :0)
I’m using my own plan. I read an OT chapter, a NT Chapter and a Psalm/Proverb. Finish the NT once a year, Psalms and Proverbs Twice and OT every couple years. Shorter chapters I’ll read a couple. Takes about 20-30 minutes each day and it helps me not have a schedule that I’ll always fail at, but rather a goal for each day I know I can do.
Ive been using the Discipleship Journal reading plan for years, but felt like mixing it up this year. I ended up going with the ESV Study Bible plan.
A wise man told me to “Read/Study to a standard, not to a time”. He told me this when I was confessing to him my struggle with maintaining my commitment to read thru the bible in a year. I told this Brother in Christ that What I found myself doing is missing a day or two due to circumstances (or lack of discipline) and then “speed reading” to catch up on my reading… Thus “not getting much out of my devotions”. When I adapted the STANDARD plan instead of the TIME plan, I found myself discovering incredible truths and being fed spiritually by the Holy Spirit like never before and getting excited about reading the Word. I felt no more guilt about “missing days” becuase under the STANDARD plan I found myself spending an hour, a day, a week or even more digesting small passages of scripture, and being fed like never before. Through the bible in a year or in 90 days is great….but that accomlishment alone with little to no new understanding is somewhat of an empty accomplishment… At least for me. 2Ti 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
YouVersion has several great plans….
I am reading the Bible through by genres.
The Discipleship Journal Bible Reading Plan. My first time trying it.
I’m using the Discipleship Journal reading plan this year.

The ESV One Year Bible published by crossway.
I’m using ‘Come, DrInk, Live’ from YouVersion
I will be continuing my custom plan of 2 chapters from the OT and 2 from the New. I then pick one or two verses from the OT and the new and complete a SOAP Journal Entry on both selections.
I am using the 1 year, Chronological Bible plan created by Blue Letter Bible, using the YouVersion Bible App.
I plan to read through the Bible in one year and actually take some time to study some parts more in detail, such as Acts to gain a better understanding of the historical aspect of the Church.
I am using the George H. Guthrie reading plan.
I read through an 8month plan last year and while I enjoyed it and grew from it, often times I felt like it was more of a chore. This year I’m going to go back to what most helps me grow… small chunks of Scripture daily with a lot of meditation and jornaling.
ONE YEAR® Chronological Bible NIV (1995) with supplemental commentary by Ms. Iva May ( http://ivamay.blogspot.com/ )

M’Cheyne — third year running!
I am currently going through James but will probably use something from youversion next.
I switch between Old and New Testament books, always starting with Genesis and ending with Revelation, but not necessarily following a set sequence in between. I read through the Bible in a different version or study Bible edition every 1-2 years.
I’m reading the “Read the Bible for Life” by Dr. George Guthrie through Lifeway and R.C. Ryan Center for Biblical Studies at Union University.
No particular plan. Just spend time each day reading and studying the Word.

I use a reading plan a friend came up with years ago. I think it is based on the devotional Walk through the Bible published.
The Bible reading plan I’m using is the One Year Bible online’s chronological plan.
Since our pastor is preaching on the New Testament for the first half of the year I am going to read through the New Testament and then when we complete the series he is doing 66 in 52 I will work my way back through the Old Testament. I appreciate your consideration for the Freebie!
I am using the Discipleship Journal’s Book at a Time Reading plan..it is good!
No plan.
I’m reading a certain number of pages a day from The Narrated Bible in Chronological Order (NIV) by F. LaGard Smith. My goal is to read through it in 6 months this time. When I’m finished, I’ll pick a different translation and a new plan.
I’ve used a plan I got at a church service over a decade ago. No name on the plan, but it goes straight through the Bible at a clip of 2-3 OT chapters and less than 1 NT chapter per day.
I am reading the HCSB One-Year Bible.
My favorite!
YouVersion App – bible in a year.
I am using the chronological plan. I’d like to see how the events unfolded in the Bible in order. I think it will be exciting to watch and see how it all is building to the Messiah’s coming.
I am going through The Story. Our Church is going through it, where everyone is studying the same passage (children-adults) in order to bring unity to our church.
I’m doing my own personal plan. I normally read selections from both the OT and NT each day.
I am using the ESV Study Bible plan on YouVersion. It is super easy and reminds me even when I get busy that time with God is very important. It’s also night because you can read it at 4 times during the day so that you are in the word constantly.
My church is reading through and teaching through the Bible this year in a plan called Cover to Cover. Starting in Genesis and ending in Revelation. 100 or so verses a day on OT thru July and about 65 verses a day in August in NT to end of year. Community Group focus will be on the reading plan. Off to a great start.
Book at a time Discipleship Journal Bible Reading Plan
I am using the good ole’ method of flipping the bible open and reading what is there… not really. Alternating reading one OT Book with one NT while reading a psalm and proverb a day.

We are using George Guthrie’s “Reading God’s Story: A Chronological Daily Bible.” Our prayer is that God would start wooing her heart even at this very young age to be sold out for King Jesus and His Kingdom Work!

Reading Gods Story – One year chronological , all our Church Homegroups are reading together.
I am currently doing the whole Bible in a year. However I am looking for a different plan for next year.

There’s a Bible reading plan that The Village Church provides with Bible Study seminar that I find very helpful.
I’m using the One Year Bible plan through YouVersion.
I am using a plan of my own…but am studying from the Life Application Bible. It is pretty awesome.
M’Cheyne Reading plan
I am planning to use the 3 year Bible reading plan in my HCSB Study Bible.
I’m using the ESV Study Bible reading plan.
To be honest, I attempted the Bible in a Year plan but that is simply too long for me. Therefore, I am giving the Bible in 90 Days a shot!
I am starting seminary next month and will cover the entire Bible this year through four of my core classes.
For the first time in 14 years, I will not use a Bible-in-a-Year plan, instead choosing to focus strongly on a different book each month. January is 2 Timothy.
Word of Life Quiet Time
Using the Robert Roberts plan.
I’m reading the minor prophets and Launch Out by Paul Chappell at paulchappell.com – Thank you
Jorge
I read at least a chapter a day sequentially. In addition, I read wherever it seems “right” to read for the moment or circumstances. I have been doing this for over 20 years and have read through many times. However, I still never fail to get new revelation and insights every time I read. I used to read a lot faster but I have slowed the pace to better absorb the widom and revelation. All of this changed my life and I highly recommend ANY plan that keeps you in the Word. The Word is life.
I’m a big fan of YouVersion. I have a couple of different plans going.
My reading plan actually starts each July, but January 1st I was starting Job and going somewhat chronologically.
This year, I am using the “Reading for Life Chronological Bible” for my reading plan.

Reading ESV Bible plan on You Version Bible on my IPad
The Discipleship Journal Bible Reading Plan on the YouVersion Bible app for iPad
Prof. Horner’s Bible-Reading System.
Thid year I’m finishing a Chronological reading plan from my youversion. I as well am taking a book of the Bible and Reading it straight through daily for 30 days. Started with Galatians. If the book is more than 7 chapters I’ll divide it into a fraction and read the portion 30 straight days. I borrowed that thought process from John Macarthur. My prayer is to know more of scripture not just read it.
I am using the ESV Study Bible Plan from YouVersion this year.
I am using the One-year Bible that I have used twice before.
I am simply reading thru the NT, Psalms & Proverbs this year. Mondays I am in the Gospels, Tuesdays & Thursdays I am in the Letters, Wednesdays I am in the Psalms, Friday I am in Proverbs, Saturdays I am in Acts and Revelation, and Sunday I have more Psalms.
I made this plan into a brochure and passed it out to the entire congregation.
Starting a plan to read through the OT in 40 days. More of a grab-stuff-as-it-comes-to-me type, so some hardcore discipline now and then is helpful.
This week’s winner is Jon V. Congratulations!
