Ministry can be disheartening at times. Today, we discuss how you can stay encouraged in ministry.

Some highlights from today’s episode include:

  • Encouragement is often elusive for pastors.
  • People who encourage you are a gift.
  • When we think of others before ourselves, we often find encouragement in seeing how God is moving in the lives of others.
  • The more time you spend around encouraging people the more encouraging you will be.
  • Get to know other pastors in your area and encourage one another.

The seven encouragement ideas we discuss are:

  1. Practice Acts 6:4
  2. Be an encourager
  3. Stay outwardly focused
  4. Spend time with encouragers
  5. Be a continuous learner
  6. Find a network
  7. Delegate draining tasks

    Thom and Jonathan,

This was a great podcast. Maybe it was because of the discouragement I have been feeling lately. I think one of my potholes has been trying to be too many things to too many people (no. 1). I am changing that. As I think back, my greatest time of refreshment and energizement (I have my doctorate so I can make up words now) were the times I spent alone with God letting the Holy Spirit remind me and fill me with His Word and HIs presence.

    I have been doing 2, 3, 5, 6, 7. I have been and am encouraged by 5 and 6. I am devoted to 3.

I have one “encouraging” comment, when you discussed no. 2, you talked more about how you were encouraged by others and not at all how you have encouraged someone. You might want to address that in the next podcast, if you haven’t already batched it.

    Have a blessed day.

I like that you encouraged us to “practice Acts 6:4”. Amen! I’m not sure if you’ve had Daniel Henderson on as a guest in the past, but he has a wonderful pastors’ network called The 6:4 Fellowship/Strategic Renewal.
